Criminally underrated record. The documentary was great and the songs get panned over way too much. No reason for this to be considered their worst record by many people. All of them kind of stand apart and on their own, so you really can't take it like you're listening to an album, but listening to a collection of songs. You're listening to a road trip through America.
Agree-I LOVE this album and especially the series-I am baffled why people don’t love this more. And I really wish they would play more of these songs on tour.
They must have some kind of beef with it because they've only played Sean live and sound-checked The Never-ending Sigh once or twice. What a great EP though.
Saw them play RFK in DC on July 4 for the 20th anniversary in support of this record. I was on the barrier.
It was the first show after Dave broke his leg, and the one where they unveiled The Throne. Before they went on, they'd dropped a curtain to hide the staging, and were playing all the Sonic Highways episodes (minus music) in order on the jumbotrons. But it was windy, and the curtain billowed up so that those of us in the very front could occasionally see what was going on.
When the roadies wheeled out The Throne, We went nuts, like "NO WAY!!!" Because the cryptic post they'd made a week or two before of a YouTube video of Gary Neumann playing "Down In The Park" live, where he drove around the stage in a futuristic car/throne, finally made sense.
"The Feast and the Famine" is probably one of the best Foo Fighters songs ever. Fight me.
Wow, I remember the first riffs of "something from nothing" I listened to. I bought the most fucking special bundle and don't regret. I was living far from home and listened a lot while I was driving. Totally underrated, and I think it's due to the masterpiece Wasting Light, cos' everyone wanted something similar and it wasn't. Saint Cecilia is an awesome EP as well.
This album came out my senior year of high school. It was all I could think about that whole year. I remember trying to beat the bots while in my stats class to see them in Nashville at the Ryman on Halloween. Sadly I didn’t have the opportunity but the series made with this album is an amazing piece of music journey and history that everyone should watch. Thankfully I was able to see them in Anaheim in October 2015 for an amazing show.
Their last really good album. Sounded so different and fresh at the time (for example I am a River) and coincidentally the last time they worked with Butch Vig. Not sure why songs are so criminally underplayed in live shows - SFN, Congregation & Outside are some of their best work. Loved the series too.
My first foo show was on the broken leg tour in KC. Got a great picture of Dave on his guitar throne, it has been the background on my phone since then!!

This was a cracking album with some great guest appearances and the accompanying documentary was really interesting.
I wonder what else was cracking during this album cycle...
Bone cracking

The THRONE! Those were some great shows.
Thought St Cecelia EP might get a mention for this era!

Remembering the Irving Plaza (NYC) riot/show. Only concert performance of ‘I am a River’ which was epic. And Dave scaling the balcony. Classic.
I wanna get outside! Baby let’s get outside outside!!!! Of Me!! PLEASE 🙏🏾 This song hits me like sunlight on my skin….
Ahhhhh🌅
Favourite track is Congregation 🤘❤️
Personally loved the live aspect of this album. Really enjoyed the series.
I Am a River healed me in so many ways I didn’t realise I needed it.
